Wheaton's planning and zoning board approved the Sprouts Farmers Market development at the northwest corner of Roosevelt Road and Chase Street — the 3.5-acre lot that sat empty after a car dealership and transmission shop were demolished in 2023. The store will be roughly 24,000 sq ft. A 12,500 sq ft nursery school takes the southeast corner of the same parcel. Zoning is cleared as of early May; construction timeline not yet announced.
Why it matters
That corner at Roosevelt and Chase has been a muddy nothing for three years. Sprouts is a quality anchor — fresh produce, bulk goods, specialty foods — and it's going into a stretch of Roosevelt that genuinely needed retail life.
