97 Summers of Free Concerts โ€” and 1,776 Ice Cream Scoops on July 2

97 Summers of Free Concerts โ€” and 1,776 Ice Cream Scoops on July 2

The Wheaton Municipal Band is back for its 97th season, playing Thursday nights at 7:30pm at Memorial Park through early August. (The June 11 opener got rained out โ€” the 97th season technically got off to a wet start โ€” but the season is underway.) The date to mark: July 2, a special America's 250th anniversary concert with patriotic music and a legitimately great gimmick โ€” 1,776 free scoops of ice cream donated by Kimmer's Ice Cream and Kilwin's. There is no charge for any of it.

Why it matters

Free summer concert on a Thursday night in Memorial Park is one of Wheaton's better traditions. Get there early on July 2 if you want ice cream โ€” 1,776 scoops sounds like a lot until 2,000 people show up.
