The Wheaton Municipal Band is back for its 97th season, playing Thursday nights at 7:30pm at Memorial Park through early August. (The June 11 opener got rained out — the 97th season technically got off to a wet start — but the season is underway.) The date to mark: July 2, a special America's 250th anniversary concert with patriotic music and a legitimately great gimmick — 1,776 free scoops of ice cream donated by Kimmer's Ice Cream and Kilwin's. There is no charge for any of it.
Why it matters
Free summer concert on a Thursday night in Memorial Park is one of Wheaton's better traditions. Get there early on July 2 if you want ice cream — 1,776 scoops sounds like a lot until 2,000 people show up.
